A Catalytic Workflow is made up of Actions. When a Workflow is started (manually or via a trigger), each Action uses 1 Action Token (*some Actions do not use any Tokens and a very small number use multiple Tokens). Skipped Actions and Workflow testing do not use Tokens. Also, creating Workflows and adding Actions to Workflows does not use any Tokens.
The majority of Catalytic Actions count as 1 Action.
Headers, comments, and workflow control Actions do not count.
Workflows can vary greatly in the number of Actions that they contain. As a thumbnail, the following formula will help estimate the number of Action Tokens a Workflow will use:
A Trigger will count as 1 Action.
The number of Actions in a Workflow that you expect to be used on average. For example, if you have a Workflow with a conditional branch with 4 Actions, but expect the branch to only process half the time, count it as 2 Actions.
If there is a batch construct on a Table row or spreadsheet, multiply the number of Actions within that batch construct by the number of rows you expect in the Table or spreadsheet. For example, if the Workflow batches over 10 rows and contains 3 Actions within the batch, it would use 30 Action Tokens.
Finally multiply the number of times you expect the Workflow to run on a monthly basis.
Keep in mind that headers, comments, and workflow Actions will not use Actions so be sure to use them to provide good documentation and workflow.
It is almost always better to use a single Action for working with data (Tables and spreadsheets) than to use a batch construct.
We measure Action usage on a daily basis, and if you have exceeded your limit, we will notify you.
We do offer a limited forgiveness policy if a Workflow “got out of control”. Send an email to email@example.com with a description of the event. Remember to use the Test feature to reduce this sort of error.
If you are on a Premium Plan, we know your Workflows may be doing important work so don’t worry, we won’t shut them down without notifying you in advance.
